Football FanCast guest columnist Jeff Rhodes wouldn't be
surprised to see Viera arrive at White Hart Lane in January.
no doubt in my mind that had Arsenal not made it known that they were perhaps
interested in Patrick Viera then he would be donning the white shirt of Spurs
right now. Wenger messed with the player's mind, gave him that bit of a hope,
but subsequently his failure to follow through and actually submit an offer
left the player dangling and unfortunately for him, remain on the bench at
Inter. Hardly the best place for 33 yr-old with hopes of a World Cup place, but
the pipe dream, of an Arsenal return, has seem to have cost him dear.
the prospect of Viera in a Spurs shirt is one that isn't welcomed by the
majority, given his gooner roots. The player himself came out a fortnight ago and
suggested that he couldn't betray his former club, with the rivalry and
everything; however it appears that another two weeks on the bench has seen Viera
have something of a rethink and now claiming he will be tempted to link up with
Redknapp, as he is a manager he greatly admires. Something of a climb down on
the Frenchman's part and you do wonder if a January move is now on.
wouldn't be surprised to see him join up, as there just seems to be too much
talk behind it from player and manager in recent weeks. There is no question
that his arrival will be a bold move, but Harry has certainly never been afraid
of making them in the past. Redknapp knows that the majority of supporters will
welcome this signing as much as they would swine flu, therefore Viera will have
to hit the ground running at Spurs, if he has any hope of winning them over.
Our central midfield certainly does need strengthening, given the way United
walked through it last week, but does Viera at 33yrs old honestly represent the
best player to do it? Shouldn't we look elsewhere?
