Bruce content with dealings

Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce is happy with his club’s dealings in the January transfer window.

The Latics saw Wilson Palacios, Emile Heskey, Ryan Taylor, Marlon King and Henri Camara leave the club, but Bruce was able to bring in four new players to take their places.

He told the Wigan Evening Post: “We let five go and brought four in. A couple of the ones we let go were on the fringes of the squad, so I’m pleased with the business we’ve done.

“There was disappointment after we lost Wilson Palacios and Emile Heskey because they’d been terrific for the club.

“But we managed to bring in Hugo Rodallega, Ben Watson, Mido and Charles N’Zogbia, who are all exciting players.

“The squad is a lot different now, maybe it’s a bit better and stronger than it was, but only time will tell.

“Four of the players who left were out of contract in the summer, so I was able to nick a few quid for them.

“If you look at what we’ve done, we’ve brought in £18million or £19million and spent around £12million, so what is left can go into the pot for the summer.

“The number of changes we have made in two or three transfer windows is quite incredible. There has been a real turn-about in the 15 months I’ve been here.”
