English Football’s ‘Greatest Foreign XI’ of all time?

Continuing with the Foreign theme of last week, I have drafted together an all-time Foreign XI that have played football in the highest level of English football. Given the task at hand, there were a few headaches, debates with fellow fans and sudden moments of “How could I have forgot HIM?” But rest assured, given how many talents from abroad that have entertained us over the last few decades I’ve chopped and changed the formation to allow some of the top players a place in this dream team. Personally I’d like to give a shout to players who wouldn’t make this dream team considering the level in quality but still entertained me and many others over the years; Roy Wegerle, Oyvind Leonhardsen, Ricardo Villa, Brad Friedel, Gianluca Vialli, Dan Petrescu, David Ginola, Jan Molby, Henning Berg, Paulo di Canio and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer – I’ll stop there.

For my final selection of the Foreign XI I have decided to go attacking with a 3-4-3 formation, simply because of the lack of quality foreign full-backs – plus it would allow me to include some great players that I would not have done using a basic 4-4-2. Despite the 3-4-3 this team could compete against any other dream team in the world and would still be entertaining to watch. Have I raised the anticipation high enough for you to see my dream team selection? Well just one more point, I’ve decided to not include players currently playing in the Premier League – so the likes of Vidic, Essien, Drogba, Torres, Van der Vaart, Nasri, Fabregas and Berbatov are not included, but what great contenders they will be for a similar dream team in the future! Ok, finally let’s get the ball rolling and see XI….
