Fab FINALLY wakes up to what Spurs fans have known for months

Football FanCast guest columnist Joe Lehman is delighted that Fabio Capello is finally showing faith in Aaron Lennon.

One thing that frustrates me about the media is the way they tend to typecast certain players and be dismissive of them, based solely on a run of performances. Unfortunately their mud tends to stick and the likes of Glen Johnson will always live with this inaccurate stigma that he can't defend, or Aaron Lennon cannot cross a ball to save his life, regardless if they have improved or not. It is totally unfair, but unfortunately with the media in this country; it is very much the nature of the beast.

Aaron Lennon has taken a huge amount of stick over the years and it is the same old tripe that his final ball always let's him down. I have always found that a rather bizarre assessment to make, especially as the player is young, still developing his game and fine tuning his talents. I remember Ryan Giggs struggling to deliver a decent ball in until he was at least 25, so Lennon certainly has time on his side to be far more consistent with his delivery. I accept that he is nowhere near Beckham in the crossing stakes (but who in the world is?), but his distribution and general wing play is a damn sight better than both Shaun Wright-Phillips and Theo Walcott.

I think Lennon's age is something that a lot of the media continue to overlook and just because he has been a regular at WHL for the past few seasons they see him as some seasoned pro, but he is still learning his trade and as any Tottenham fan will tell you his game has transformed in the past twelve months, to a different level, and he is finally fulfilling his undoubted potential. There isn't a full back in England that is able to handle him, and the Premier League possesses two of the world's best in Cole and Evra, therefore it is little wonder that Fabio Capello sees Lennon as his No.1 choice in recent games, as at this moment in time, there is no better right winger in the country. It has taken Fabio some time to realise this, but for England's sake it is better late than never.
