It might be obvious, but choosing your captain is one of the most important aspects of the Fantasy Premier League, as double points can literally be the difference between winning your mini-league and ending with, well, nothing.

Many mates will ask their friends who they brought in over the course of the week, but not many will reveal (without possibly lying) who their captain is, as reasons mentioned earlier.

And unlike the previous seasons with the likes of Thierry Henry (yes I was playing since those days), Cristiano Ronaldo, and Luis Suarez, there isn’t one big-name player this season that is guaranteed to give you big points week-in, week-out (unless you consider Jamie Vardy a big-name now).

There are several options each and every time, so here at FootballFanCast we will evaluate the best five heading into Gameweek 16!

So without further ado, here are the FIVE Fantasy Premier League captain choices for Gameweek 16.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku

The ‘new Jamie Vardy’? With this crazy season, it is a definite possibility that Vardy’s 11-game goal-scoring could be beaten by the now consistent Romelu Lukaku (9.1), who has now scored in five games in succession and is only three behind Vardy’s 14 in the goalscoring charts.

And Everton’s next game is against Norwich City, who have only kept one clean sheet the entire season, giving Lukaku amble opportunity to catch up to the in-form Leicester City star.

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy (centre)

The champions have lost four of their last six game... that is not a phrase you say very often. Chelsea are in a dire run of form and their next game is against league leaders Leicester City at the KingPower Stadium.

With that in mind, Jamie Vardy (7.6) could continue his attempt to be the division’s top scorer by bagging another goal to put more pressure on the Blues this weekend, with the Foxes scoring in every game this season!

I mean, if you backed Vardy as captain the last 13 games, you would have walked away with at least 10 points every week! Insane.

Harry Kane

Kane Click

After scoring seven goals in four match from Gameweek 10 to 13, managers quickly jumped on the Harry Kane (9.7) bandwagon. Sadly, the England international has not only blanked the last two fixtures, but picked up two yellow cards to earn him only one point in each.

However, Newcastle United are next up at White Hart Lane, with the Magpies conceding 14 goals in their last four away games. Newcastle may have beaten Liverpool 2-0 over the weekend, but it was more of a poor display from Jurgen Klopp’s side rather than the Toon Army’s brilliance.

And Kane could be the one to put Newcastle to the cane, I mean sword.

David Silva

David Silva

If you’re looking for Manchester City cover, it may be the perfect time to bring in David Silva (10.0). The Spaniard blanked during their lack-lustre display against Stoke City last weekend, but came back with a bang in midweek against Borussia Mochengladbach with a brilliant opening goal.

Many will consider Kevin de Bruyne as a viable option, but given that the Belgian has played almost every game due to various injuries around him, Silva has come back in contention and playing against a Swansea City at the Etihad could spark his return.

Mesut Ozil

Ozil

Mesut Ozil (9.6) was previously canned for his inconsistency the past few seasons, but this term he has showed anything but.

The Germany international has racked up points nine games in succession, and is Arsenal’s stand-out Fantasy option amid a high number of injured players.

With the Gunners travelling to a struggling Aston Villa side this weekend, one wouldn’t bet against Ozil scoring or supplying another assist once more.
