This past weekend we had the FA Cup and were unable to look at the scorers in anticipation of a Fantasy Premier League asset amongst the points, but we don’t have to wait very long with Gameweek 21 already starting this very Tuesday.
The month of January is definitely when a manager can truly make or break their season, as now the Wildcard has once again been reinstated… giving a manager the freedom to chop and change any player for one week.
However, it might be a bit too early to activate your wildcard, with the knowledge that there are a few double gameweeks ahead along with a few possible injuries set to come our way.
So it could end up once again being your captain that may decide your week… and as usual here on FootballFanCast we give you the heads up on who you should consider.
Here are FIVE Fantasy Premier League captain choices ahead of Gameweek 21
At the beginning of the season, many managers were sceptical that Harry Kane (9.8) would be able to reproduce his insane form from last term. However, it seems he is no one season wonder and already has 11 league goals halfway through the campaign.
Next up is Leicester City, but although the Foxes are having an incredible season, they have struggled at the back and after Kane scored against them in the FA Cup on Sunday, he could do so once again to add to his tally this week.
Diego Costa (10.7) was considered as a top-tier striker when the season begun, but Chelsea’s poor form saw him struggle and he only scored 3 goals in the first half of the campaign.
However, after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, the Spain international has found his feet and has scored three and assisted one in his last three games.
With West Bromwich Albion up next at the Bridge, we expect Costa to play a big part if Chelsea are to continue their climb up the table under Guus Hiddink.
Take note though, Costa is currently carrying a slight knock and will be a slight gamble compared to other choices, but could pay off bigtime.
If there is one Arsenal player that Liverpool will be scared of right now, it would be Mesut Ozil (10.0). The Germany international has been extremely consistent this season with an incredible 16 assists, and Jurgen Klopp’s injury-plagued side could struggle with his creativity on Wednesday.
While the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott started the game, Arsene Wenger rested Ozil in their FA Cup win over Sunderland on Saturday and the former Real Madrid star is expected to be fit ahead of their trip to Anfield.
One of the surprise players in this season’s Fantasy Premier League, Odion Ighalo (6.4) has burst into the scene with an incredible 14 strikes in his debut campaign.
The Nigeria international scored in six consecutive games prior to his blank against Manchester City, but he was thwarted several times by Joe Hart and could have easily gotten himself on the scoresheet.
But next up for Watford is Southampton, who have struggled compared to the past few seasons this time around and have only won one game in their last eight fixtures.
With Sergio Aguero (13.1) almost back at 100% fitness, it is once again hard to ignore one of the Premier League’s most lethal strikers in the second half of the season.
He has also been in fine form with two goals in his last two games (including the FA Cup) and will be irking to get back on the trail to regain his title as the league’s top scorer.
Everton are up next at the Etihad Stadium, but while the Toffees have been brilliant in attack, their defence has been mediocre with eight goals conceded in their last four games. If a chance falls to Aguero, Roberto Martinez’s men will likely be punished.
