Football FanCast guest columnist Kevin Pressley is delighted to see the Americans are finally putting the interest of the football club first.
Any fears that we may have had of Tom Hicks proving an obstacle in the way of Prince Faisal buying into the football club appeared to have been quashed, after a source close to Hicks suggested that he and Gillett have decided that a split will be in the best interests for the club.
While Hicks has confirmed that he has no intention of selling up his stake in the club, the very fact he has decided to welcome a new partner has quelled any fears that he will look to veto any attempts from Gillett to sell his shares. It was well documented that he blocked DIC attempts to buy Gillett's shares back in 2008, but given the financial state the club is in it appears the Americans have realised that their partnership is at a point of no return and their infighting is putting necessary investors off, which meant that something had to give. It is refreshing to see one of them actually put the interest of the football club first, before their own personal battles and self gain; I am sure that Gillett is more than happy to see the back of us, well George believe me that feeling is extremely mutual.
So at last the signs are suggesting a positive long term outlook for the club. Prince Faisal's representatives claimed that they would be unwilling to buy into a football club that was at war and as his aide put it, he is no marriage guidance counsellor, therefore it is clear the latest developments between the two Americans are set to smooth the way for the Saudis to move in. With a bit of luck once they are in and they can push Hicks out as well, but one step at a time as they say.
