Arsenal missed out on the opportunity to cut the gap between them and Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table to just one point, as they were held to a goalless draw by Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were largely off the pace in the first half, but Arsene Wenger will feel that in the second half his team had more than enough chances to earn all three points. Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh were both denied by the woodwork as Arsenal pressed for the winner, but Sunderland held firm at the back and could have even won it, but for a fine save from Wojciech Szczesny. It was one of those days for Arsenal, and one they might look back come the end of the season as a telling one in the Premier League title race.
