Sir Alex Ferguson has long been able to get away with Manchester United winning trophies without a recognised creative midfielder. Despite how much the former manager has been pushed on this front, he’s always managed to find alternate ways of bringing the best out of his team.
David Moyes, however, is likely to take a slightly different approach. The new manager may want to go straight in and address an area of the pitch which so many have identified as an area of weakness.
The club have fortunately seen a very good season from Michael Carrick, though the midfielder’s age means reinforcements will be needed.
