Football FanCast guest columnist Marcus Greene feels Ruud van Nistelrooy would be a useful addition at WHL.
With the rumour mill starting to turn once again and players been linked to and from Tottenham; the talk of a move for Ruud van Nistelrooy has returned given that the Dutchman has finally realised that his chances of a regular first team start at the Bernabeu has since diminished. Most supporters could have told him that ages ago, but it is clear his Dutch arrogance has got the better of him here.
The papers have claimed that Ruud is eyeing up a move to the Premier League in January, in quest of first team football and I would personally take him down the Lane, especially if Pavlyuchenko is likely to move on.
Despite his age and his injury record, Ruud is still good enough to cut in the Premier League and his goalscoring record speaks for itself. One of the big factors as to why I would like to see Ruud at our place has much to do with the fact that without Jermain Defoe in attack we certainly look blunt upfront. I know Keane and Crouch have all bagged goals this season (albeit against lesser teams) but anyone who saw that first hour against Bolton will know that without Jermain we don't have that presence of a goal poacher in the team or somebody that will get in behind the defence, as Crouch and Keane both generally play with their back to goal. I feel the arrival of another out and out goalscorer will bring a better balance to our attack and take a lot of the pressure off Defoe.
So what is the generally feeling about Ruud van Nistelrooy and is he a player you would like to see at the Lane, if Pav moves on? Or is he simply a spent force who has had his day?
