He’ll return a different player to the one that left Arsenal

Jerry Lowe feels that Viera
would return to Arsenal a very different player to the one that left.

If the rumours are to be believed and Patrick Viera
is set to make an emotional return to Arsenal in January, then he'll certainly
return a very different player to the one that left us for Juventus over four
years ago.

The prospect of his return certainly has supporters
split with some welcoming it, while others look upon it with scepticism,
believing that it is a mistake for a player to return to the club where you
made your name. History certainly shows plenty of cases where it has proved a
huge mistake, but I don't believe it will be the situation here.

Viera's return to Arsenal is certainly more significant
than just being a player and I reckon Wenger will be looking to the Frenchman
who not only in the short term provide some much needed cover for Song during
the ACN, but someone who will take a more active role off the pitch and help groom
the likes of Song and Denilson into that midfield role that he himself held
with such distinction, during his years at Arsenal. At 33years old Viera isn't
in a position to play week in, week out and be the lynchpin he once was in the
Arsenal midfield, therefore I feel the decision to bring him back was more to
what he can bring off the pitch as well as on it.

Another reason Viera will be a real asset to the
team is not only his obvious experience, but he'll be that leader and
figurehead that the football club currently lack both on and off the pitch,
whilst making sure that everyone adheres to the standards and professionalism
that Wenger expects. Viera symbolises Arsenal, with it carrying respect and
just having his presence at the football club will give Wenger his leader in
the dressing room and a player that any youngster finding their feet at the
club, or even or more experienced pro can turn to for advice as Viera is a
player (unlike any of the current squad)
who has been it, seen it and done it, whether it is titles and cups for club,
but the two biggest prizes that International football can offer. It would be
nice to see some winners in the dressing room, something with the exception of
Silvestre we are currently short of.

Would
Viera's return to Arsenal be welcomed?
