As Chelsea’s poor form continues, questions are being raised whether the Premier League heavyweights are in need of a freshening up when the transfer market opens next month.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti believes he can spend in January, alluding to the fact that he too is of the opinion that they are in need of a little more strength when it comes to his squad.
It is thought Ancelotti held crunch talks with billionaire owner Roman Abramovich after the latest faltering step in the season – Sunday’s 1-1 draw with title contenders Tottenham. As results continue to falter I too agree that a couple of new faces could kick start their season.
The Italian said: “We spoke about the situation of the team. If we need to improve our squad in January, the owner is available for us to do this.” Chelsea’s recent poor form has proven that the club do not currently own a squad that can deal with the long hard season the Premier League offers up.
However, for me now is not the time to be thinking about introducing new players, thinking about buying in January during December is futile as it is impossible to do until the market reopens.
Chelsea must now look forward to their next three games against Manchester United, Arsenal and currently high flying Bolton Wanderers. If the club can pick up nine points in their next three games, which they can do, then is their any need for the Premier League champs to purchase come January?
If results do however not go their way then can we see Ancelotti doing the unthinkable and skipping the next transfer window? I don’t think so!
So here’s where the fun starts, who do we think Chelsea will go for? Manchester City’s Joleon Lescott to sure up a defence that has been blighted by injury or Sergio Aguero, the Atletico Madrid forward who would surely fit into any world class team adding more firepower?
