Scot Munroe reflects on this week’s Serie A action
Former Juventus Midfielder Sergio Almiron Scored the goal that could end Ciro Ferrara reign at Juventus. The Game finished 3-1 to Bari and to makes matters worse Gigi Buffon has been sidelined until January with a Knee Injury. Cico Ferrara went with the trident 4-1-2-1-2 with Tigao replacing the Suspended Felipe Melo. Bari went with the attacking 4-4-2 that has helped them all this season. To add spice to the game both goal mouths were covered in Sawdust to combat the Ice that had fallen at the Stadio San Nicola. Bari took the lead after 7 minutes when Claudio Marchisio was dispossessed by Riccardo Meggiorini, whose volley took a deflection off Tiago and wrong footed Gigi Buffon. Meiggiorini was then booked for taken his shirt off in the celebration. Diego then tested Gillet (the best a man can get) at his near post. Bari could’ve have gone 2-0 after 22 minutes, as Leonardo Bonucci was left free by the Juventus defence and headed over from 7 yards out. Juventus then equalised straight after the Bonucci chance with Trezeguet knocking in from 7 yards out after a Diego snapshot was palmed away by Gillet. Just before half time Vitor Barreto burst in the box and was fell over the challenge from Fabio Cannavaro, replays shows that it was never a penalty the player ran into Cannavaro. The Referee gave the penalty, up stepped Barretto who was fouled and sent Buffon the wrong way. After half-time Fabio Grosso replaced the Christian Molinaro. Molinaro looked like he picked up a knock to his Knee. 120 Seconds after coming on Grosso earned his side a penalty; again it did look a very dodgy call by the referee. Former Werder Bremen man Diego stepped up and missed the penalty, the ball sailing over the crossbar, a horrible miss by the Brazilian playmaker. It looked like a Green laser pen was aimed into the eyes off Diego as he was taking the penalty, the Juventus bench did complain to the fourth official. Sergio Almiron former Juventus player nailed the final coffin as he added the third goal of the game as a daisy cutter from 20 yards out left Buffon flat footed. It could have been 4-1 in the dying moments off the game as Kamata crossed for Alvarez who blazed over from 6 yards out. A fantastic win for Bari and a week to forget for Ferrara and his Juventus team
AC Milan unbeaten run came to an end after a lovely display of counter attacking football by Palermo. Dello Rossi fielded a 3-4-1-2 formation with Fabio Simplico behind the front 2 of Cavani and Miccoli. Leonardo fielded his now known 4-2-1-3 with Abate replacing Pato who was rested and old man Favalli replacing Thiago Silva who picked up an injury in training and will be out of action for at least 2 months. Palermo started brightly within 120 seconds Cavani flashed a drive from a Miccoli assist. Moments later both Bresciano and Nocherino peppered the Milan goal from distance. Milan slowly got into the game as Clarence Seedorf cross-came shot was only missed by inches by Marco Borriello. Gianluca Zambrotta then hit the post from a Seedorf pass. After half-time the away side looked more threatening as Miccoli danced his way through the Milan defence and sent a wonderful curling effort past the desperate dive off Nelson Dida, a moment of brilliance by the former Milan youth player. Leonardo then sent on Alexandre Pato he came on for the disappointed Abate. Marco Borriello head an effort from a Ronaldinho corner into the arms of Salvatore Sirgu. As soon as the home side was piling on the pressure then Palermo struck to double the lead. Once again Miccoli was the architect, cruising past the Milan defence and sliding the ball to Pastore and his shot was saved by Nelson Dida and Mark Bresciano was there to make it 2-0. Milan then threw everything at Palermo to salvage the game but the Palermo defence but to no avail. Could Leonardo be under pressure after this game?

Mario Ballotelli nearly made it 2-0 to the visitors put his effort was not strong enough to bet Coppala. Inter had to play the last 25 minutes of the game with 10 men as Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneidjer was foolishly sent off for 2 yellows, his 2nd was a stupid trip on Tibero Guarante. Atalanta got the goal they finally deserved as substitute Simone Tiribocchi levelled when he sprang the offside trap and carefully slotted the ball past Julio Cesar. Samuel Eto’o nearly gave the away team all 3 points as he bundled himself into the Atalanta area then fired over. Deep into time added on Inter had another golden chance to take 3 points Eto’o once again was denied by having his shot charged down and then Thiago Motta amazing missed from point blank as Coppala denied him with his outstretched foot.
Napoli snatched a late draw with a goal 6 minutes into stoppage time as Mariano Bogliacino brave effort made it 3-3. Napoli somehow squandered a 2-0 lead away to Cagliari when Lavezzi and then Pazienza made it 2-0 after 65 minutes. But then a mad 15 minutes Cagliari then took the lead 3-2 with goals from Larrivey, Matri and Jeda thought they won the game but then up popped Bogliacino to make it 3-3. Lavezzi was sent off when a hot-headed moment when he kicked the ball at opposite manager Allegri and got himself stupidly sent off.
Basement battle in Scilly between Catania and Livorno went to the away side. So Sinsa Mihajlovic debut at Catania was ruined by Tomas Danilevicius strike 2 minutes from time. 84th minutes into the game Catania captain decided to get himself sent off for 2 bookable offences the 2nd one was to dive into a scuffle between 2 other players. Danilevicius was the man for Livorno when he had a bit off fortune when the ball ricocheted off Biagiant’s face so the Lithuanian could fire home to give Serse Cosmi team the 3 points.

Hurrah for Lazio as they managed to win a league game since week 2 off the season. Aleksander Kolarov goal gave Balladini Lazio career as manager a bit of momentum. Kolarov managed to burst down the left hand side, rode past two tackles and sent a fizzing shot into the far bottom corner of the goal from a very acute angle. A bit of tonic for the Lazio fans after the derby defeat last Sunday night.
Parma manage to keep themselves in the champions league as Francesco Guidolin is doing a fantastic job at Tardini and the win over local rivals Bologna bring back memories of the early 90’s as success was frequent at Parma. Gaby Mudingayi fantastic solo effort gave Bologna a 1-0 lead after 43 minutes. Former Roma Christian Panucci equalised with a free header 12 minutes into the 2nd half. Nicola Amoruso missed a penalty 20 minutes from time as Bolgona were down to 10 men as Miguel Angel Britos was sent off for a clumsy foul on Dzemali. Amoruso penalty hit the upright and out of play. But he made up for his error by scoring the winner 5 minutes from time as he tapped in from 6 yards out.
An Entertaining game at the Marrasi ended up 0-0 between Sampdoria and Roma. Sampdoria hit the woodwork twice and Roma did force saves from Castellazzi several times. Both Menez and Pizarro missed the game through suspension. Both Roma full backs Marco Cassetti and John Arne Riise were magnificent in defence making brilliant headed clearances more than once. A point gained for both sides.
Siena managed to notch 2 wins in a row in the league. Massimo Maccarone take a bow because his goal was out of this world.
