Brendan Rodgers has dropped a big hint that Raheem Sterling will commit his future to the club by claiming that other key players will follow Jordan Henderson’s example and sign new Liverpool deals.
The Reds’ vice captain today penned a fresh £100,000-per-week contract, putting an end to the speculation surrounding his future on Merseyside.
His actions follow those of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, while there are suggestions that players such as Jordon Ibe and Martin Skrtel are in line for fresh terms.
One issue, however, is Sterling, who has gone on record to state that he will not be talking with the club about a new deal until the summer after rejecting a £100,000-per-week offer.
The 20-year-old is the club’s leading Premier League scorer and is considered to be one of Europe’s best young players, and Rodgers has stated on numerous occasions that he wants him to stay.
And now following Henderson’s actions, the Kop chief has suggested that other major players will be tied down before long:
“I am very excited about our future and what this group can achieve together; today’s announcement is another important positive step forward,” he is quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “The owners are committed to creating a team that can grow, improve and ultimately win together.
“We have seen some very important contract renewals this season and I’m confident, under Ian Ayre’s stewardship, we will see further commitments made and more exciting talent secured and added to our squad.”
