Football FanCast guest columnist Roy St Ledger fears that Rafa may be tempted by Real’s advances, given the mounting pressure that is currently on him at Liverpool.
If you ever thought that Rafa Benitez was getting the thin end of the wedge by the media then spare a thought for Manuel Pellegrini who apparently has two games to save his job, at the Bernabeu.
Real are an absolute joke in my opinion and where the like of Barca nurture players, via their youth set-up, Perez has adopted a win at all costs policy, not only in the transfer market, but it appears in the hot seat as well. This is a football club that has had three different managers in the past 12 months and then wonder why they are struggling to achieve success.
Why you may be wondering as to why the fortunes of Los Blancos affects this Liverpool fan is that once again speculation over the future of the Real Madrid boss, has allowed the dreaded Rafa rumours to resurface about him taking the reins at the Bernabeu.
I have to concede I have never been one who has previously expressed concerns about Rafa, as I have always felt he was fully committed to the project at Liverpool and determined to see the job through; however the events in recent weeks and the increasing scrutiny the man is under, given the poor results and sections of the Liverpool crowd turning on him, I do wonder whether Benitez could now perhaps be tempted, should the opportunity arise. No other manager in the country has had to put up with what appears to be a constant witch-hunt that has seemingly been gathering pace towards him in recent weeks. They seem determined to break him in any way possible and it is totally unfair.
Obviously my hope is that Pellegrini turns things round at Madrid, as the last thing we need is Perez sniffing around our football club once again and trying to entice Rafa away. I know there are some supporters who are losing patience with Benitez and have been disappointed with results but Rafa is still the right man for Liverpool and letting him leave would be extremely detrimental to the club going forward.
