Liverpool set to join the £13m race for Spaniard?

If there
are to be bargains to be had in the summer then look no further than Valencia.

Millions of
euro's in debt, a new stadium to be paid for and they face a fight to make the
Champions League this season. Life could certainly be better at ‘The Mestalla'
but at least they have a plethora of real quality that can be sold on if need
be to help reduce the debt, there will be no shortage of takers, especially
when you have got the likes of Villa, Silva and Joaquin within your ranks.

It will be
a fire sale of mass proportions with Sporting Director Fernando Gomez
suggesting that there could be no fewer than 18 players sold in order to reduce
the squad and subsequently service the debt. It has had a few alarm bells ringing
among clubs in Europe, who will all look to take advantage of their crippling
financial state.

to reports on SkySports this morning Liverpool are one of those clubs
who have been keeping a close eye on Valencia over the past few months and in
particular the Spanish international Raul Albiol. The 24yr old is extremely versatile
and can operate either as a holding midfielder or centre half. Only last week
Arsenal was heavily linked with the player and the talented star will not be short
of offers. Gomez conceded that unfortunately Valencia are not in a position to
turn down offers and all bids would be considered, but was quick to stress that
no formal approaches as yet had been made for Albiol.

"Today it is
necessary to study each offer that we receive and after that we would

"The money
situation is complicated at the club, but formally nobody has spoken with us
about Abiol.

"But we are aware that the Reds have been scouting around here in
recent months."

Albiol is certainly one of the bright
lights in Spanish football and it has been reported that a fee in the region of
£13m would be enough to tempt Valencia to sell. There is no doubting why
Liverpool would be interested in him and speculation about their apparent
interest will only once again cast doubt over the long term future of Daniel
Agger at Anfield given his failure to reach agreement with Liverpool over a new
