Football FanCast has teamed up with IM Scouting to promote their NEW feature ‘Player on Fire’. This week’s focus is on Liverpool target Aleksandr Kerzhakov.
Russian Premier League leaders Zenit have benefited all season long from Aleksandr Kerzhakov.
And his scoring form has not gone unnoticed outside the country.
The 27-year-old holds a current tally of 16 goals in 33 appearances for Zenit and Russia this season. Kerzhakov has scored eleven of those goals in his last eight matches.
Kerzhakov began his professional career at Zenit, and showed great promise by scoring 64 goals in his first six seasons.
In 2006, Kerzhakov joined Sevilla for an estimated €5 million, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal.
However, due to a change of hands in Sevilla’s management, Kerzhakov saw less of the field, eventually leading to his transfer to Ukrainian side Dinamo Moskva on a three-year-deal.
In January 16, 2010 Zenit Saint Petersburg re-signed their golden boy – a decision which has so far been vindicated, as he has helped Zenit to their best season in recent years.
Kerzhakov has also been in good form for the Russia n international team, scoring in both recent Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Kerzhakov has 52 caps for the national side, and has scored 18 goals.
Recent reports have linked Liverpool with Kerzhakov, claiming the Reds would consider a £6-million bid for the striker’s services in the January transfer window to boost the team’s beleaguered attack.
