The United States will host one of the most anticipated pre-season matches this summer. Manchester City and Chelsea will play in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday May 23. This exhibition fixture is just four days after the conclusion of the Premier League season. This will be City’s third time travelling to America since making their first North American tour in 2010.
Manchester City chief commercial and operations officer, Tom Glick told the Daily Mail, “We believe in US soccer and we know how much passion the fans in North America have for the beautiful game. The club is committed to giving fans across the world the opportunity to get close to Manchester City FC.”
Summer tours in the states have been well worth the travel for Premier League clubs. Manchester City and Chelsea has gained a large American following. Tickets for this match sold out in just 20 minutes.
Also, fans that missed out on face value tickets are spending to see the Premier League’s best play. Tickets are rumoured to have a resale value as high as $2,000.
Busch Stadium is primarily a baseball field, hosting the occasional concert. This match will fill the stadium to its 46,861 capacity and should make for a record-breaking crowd.
A vice president of event services and merchandising for Busch Stadium, “This event is the hottest ticket in St Louis. It is like a ticket to game seven of the World Series!”
Chelsea’s Interim manager Rafa Benitez expects to make the trip with the Blues.
