West Ham are looking to strike a deal with Tottenham for the services of out of favour midfielder Jamie O’Hara.
Having gone on loan in January for his second spell at Pompey, O’Hara has managed to make 27 appearances whilst netting 4 goals along the way for the south coast club. Undoubtedly he is in the category and run in for Portsmouth’s player of the year, after manufacturing impressive performances week in week out.
The player is sure to be a transfer target for several premiership clubs when the window opens in July.
However the 23-year-old has done himself no favours in the past by blasting his present proprietors in the media. As a result of this, It looks an absolute certainty that O’Hara will be sold by spurs this summer. His infamous comments stating that he would rather see Portsmouth reach the F.A cup final instead of his current employers came as a shock to pundits and fans alike.
With the Tottenham man looking to put his career back on track as it once was, many feel he will have to leave Portsmouth (who are doomed for Championship football next season) and find a new club within the top flight.
A number of clubs will be monitoring his movements during the course of the summer, however, due to the circumstances and complications of how much money is owed from Portsmouth to spurs in loan fees (£500,000), O’Hara’s signature poses a difficult obstacle to complete for any club interested in him.
West Ham are among the pack who wish to acquire Jamie O’Hara in the next window. Spurs on the other hand have not hidden their admiration for Hammers defender Matthew Upson in the past. Upson has just one year left on his current contract at Upton Park, although he may leave following financial problems that the East London club are facing. Spurs could act on the situation and contemplate a swap with O‘Hara along with cash, which will see Upson go the other way.
The rival clubs have not done a deal since their quarrel over Tottenham’s attempt to sign Craig Bellamy (at the time), and with both clubs detesting one another, it will be hard to see anything ensue at all. Scott Duxbury has since left Upton Park so it remains to see if the two Davids will share the club’s former chief executive stance about trading with their London rivals.
Newcastle are also looking into the possibility of bringing Jamie O’Hara to Tyneside. Following their promotion from the championship, the magpies will be looking to bolster their squad with experience and O’Hara fits the bill perfectly.
Jamie O’Hara is a good, reliable player for any team to have, and despite his controversial remarks towards spurs, he has managed to do what he loves best…play football. Many more clubs will make their intentions clear as the days go by, that’s for sure. O’Hara is fast becoming this summer’s most wanted and It will be intriguing to see where the player ends up next season, having had a wonderful one this year.
