Walking away from the Hawthorns on Saturday saw plenty of supporters ranting and raving at the Tottenham no-show, where the team failed to get out of first gear throughout the game. Many players bore the brunt of the supporter’s discontent, no more so than Wilson Palacios.

Palacios has started the season where he left off last year with a series of poor displays that is causing real concern. He has been a real shadow of the player that first burst on the scene when he arrived from Wigan and subsequently we have looked increasingly fragile in centre midfield. Huddlestone for all his abilities with a football, hasn’t got the battling qualities required, therefore we are extremely limited in the ball winning department. The only option we really have is our new Brazilian Sandro; which makes the decision to drop him from the Champions League squad all the more baffling.

I’m sure that I am not the only Tottenham fan bemused at the decision to omit our £14m summer signing from the squad. You have also got to feel for Sandro who talked of his excitement of playing in the Champions League, but if anyone can tell me the logic behind the decision to drop him then I would love to hear it. I know you are only limited to 25 players on top of the Player B list (which includes the likes of Bale), but how does the currently injured Jamie O’Hara get in ahead of him? I know there is a school of thought that we need to be patient with Sandro and let him settle in, but is there not a case of throwing him straight in; especially given the current form of Wilson Palacios? It is a gamble in my opinion and one that I hope Tottenham doesn’t live to regret.
