Sir Alex Ferguson dips his hand in his pocket to help out former club

As Manchester United continues their run toward a 20th league championship, Sir Alex Ferguson makes a strong commitment to his first professional club.

After being relegated from the Scottish Premier League last season, Dunfermline F.C. was forced to sell or release 22 players to avoid bankruptcy.

To help save the club from looming debt, United’s manager offered to bring Manchester United players to Denfermline’s East End Park for a fund-raising friendly.

Official support-club conduit Jim Leishman told BBC Sport, “Fergie is a very busy man but he is a true fan. We’ve to go and speak to him to see if he can come up with something.”

Ferguson scored 66 goals in 89 games for Dunfermline. The club reportedly needs £134,000 to pay off their debt. To put this amount in perspective, the Daily Mail reports that Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie currently earns £250,000 per week.
