Sir Alex’s words falling on death ears?

Sir Alex Ferguson has defended United owners, the Glazers, by claiming he has been fully backed by the Americans. The United boss has also dismissed rumours that the clubs debt repayments are spoiling the possibility of new signings this summer.

The Scotsman has openly stated that he will not look to add a huge amount to his squad this summer; instead, the United boss may only decide to acquire just the one signing if any at all.

Fergie’s recent assertion of the Glazers may come as a shock to some (if not all) of the United fans. They (the fans) have been against the Glazers for a number of years now following debt issues, and are persistent in getting them out of the club all together.

However, Fergie has told the gathering media today that his owners have done nothing wrong; instead the United boss has moved to defend them. Fergie believes his owners have backed him in every way possible since their arrival. Speaking to the Telegraph, the united chief told of his admiration for the Glazers:

“They have been great owners. They have supported me in every way I have asked them. Anytime we have wanted a player, they have provided the money.”

These words may fall on death ears with the some of the Old Trafford faithful, as they may believe it’s because of the Glazers that the club are in even more debt than ever before. United have not seemed to replace the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez in the summer, and as time has gone on, the fans have wondered where the £80 million in transfer fees for the Portuguese star has gone.

Fergie has somewhat explained where the money has been spent, this is what he told the Telegraph this morning on the matter:

“What people forget is that we have spent £20 million on young players this season, including Chris Smalling, Mame Biram Diouf and Javier Hernandez. We have always seen our future as based on young players developing at the club. But because we are signing young players, not big showpiece signings, they think we are not moving. People do not recognise how we see our future.”

Fans of the club will acknowledge Fergie’s assessment, but the fact is they will want their club to attract big signings, which it seems Fergie will not be perusing this summer.

It is no secret that United are in huge debt. The Red Devils will be looking to clear these arrears in more ways than one in the upcoming years. Fergie will know this, and as a result will not be splashing the cash unnecessarily.

Ferguson remains adamant and has dismissed claims that the huge debt has damaged his ability to sign players this summer. However, many United fans will beg to differ on Fergie’s recent diagnosis…it may have even raised a few eyebrows.
