Arsenal fans are becoming more and more pleased with the performance level of Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who was criticised by many on Twitter for his displays during pre-season, after another solid showing on Thursday night against Vorskla in the Europa League.

Some people have suggested he should’ve been handed the man of the match award instead of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored two goals as Arsenal claimed a 4-2 win.

The Greece international, who earns £90,000-a-week according to Total Sportek, made a number of good sliding tackles against the Ukrainian outfit, much to the delight of the Arsenal fans who have seen some fragile defending in recent times. Papastathopoulos has started all of Arsenal matches so far this season, linking up with Shkodran Mustafi in the Premier League.

On Thursday evening, however he started next to 23-year-old Rob Holding and together the two looked rock solid until the 76th minute, when Vorskla got on the scoresheet before adding a second in the final seconds of the match.

Papastathopoulos, nonetheless, has been showing a strong level of consistency and commitment since he joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund in the summer and will undoubtedly have a strong influence on how the club’s season plays out.
