Arsenal purchased Mesut Ozil last season for a club record £42.5million, with many hailing the Germany international as the ‘Assist King’.
However Ozil has failed to live up to that reputation, especially this season in which he only has one league assist to his name thus far.
On the other hand, Chelsea’s midfield summer signing Cesc Fabregas – who is an ex-Arsenal captain – has SEVEN TIMES more assists than the German… and the rest of the Arsenal squad.
But let’s look at this in a different perspective; is his assist tally high due to amount of chances he creates… or the number of chances finished by his team-mate Diego Costa?
In any case, this statistic provided by OPTA proves that Chelsea were the definite winners of the transfer market, and that Arsene Wenger needs to change his transfer policy if he wants to challenge for the Premier League title.
So all hail Cesc Fabregas, the new ‘Assist King’! For now. Gylfi Sigurdsson is the Queen at six.
