Sunderland target Cabanas shot in Mexican bar

SalvadorCabanasSalvador Cabanas of Club America was shot in the head while visiting New Mexico bar in front of family and friends. The incident took place at 5.30pm local time, Cabanas got involved a bar fight on which dragged on into the bathroom and a shoot out occurred. The 29 year old Paraguayan striker was immediately rushed to hospital by ambulance and is in a critical condition.

Club America President Michel Bauer has stated that the striker was conscious when at the hospital until he given anaesthesia before a very critical operation to remove the bullet from his brain. Bauer has critically denied that the striker is actually brain dead.

Sunderland and West ham have been linked with the striker and before the incident Sunderland were trying to sort out a loan deal for the striker. His goal record is very impressive for his current side Club America with 66 goals in 114 games. For his country Paraguay he has netted 10 goals in 44 games.

Cabanas have sort of been overshadowed by Nelson Valdez, Roque Santa Cruz and Oscar Cardozo form for Paraguay but a still a good international record.

I Hope to see Salvador Cabanas recover from this awful setback and part-take in the 2010 world cup in South Africa; it is a player that has caught my eye a few times when playing for Paraguay during the Copa America and World cup qualifying.
