Sunderland to step up transfer pursuit as Everton plot £18m raid for key man

Sunderland are gearing up to make a serious move for Anderlecht’s Kara Mbodji as Everton prepare an improved £18m offer for Lamine Kone, according to reports from The Sun.

The Black Cats are yet to make a summer addition, with Sam Allardyce’s move to manage England and the arrival of David Moyes in his place having somewhat derailed preparations at the Stadium of Light.

And these plans have taken a further hit with news that Kone, who starred as the Wearsiders dodged relegation last term, is attracting attention from Everton.

Reports claim that the Toffees are planning an £18m offer for the Ivory Coast international, and potentially in a reaction to this, Sunderland are ready to step up their pursuit of Mbodji.

It’s understood that an enquiry has been made regarding the Senegalese ace, who is rated at around £8m.

Should both deals go through, Moyes’ side stand to make a profit.
