Fernando Torres has found life tough at Chelsea so far, as his goal drought continues and the media witch-hunt hasn’t helped matters either, with the Daily Mail being the latest publication to antagonise the Spanish forward by suggesting that the club want to sell Torres in the summer.
But the 27-year-old does have something to be happy about as Yossi Benayoun, his former team-mate at Liverpool, is back in the Chelsea first team after a long spell out injury and you can’t help but feel that it will be the Israeli who will carve out the sorts of opportunities which will help Torres break his duck.
Both Benayoun and Torres came on as substitutes against Wigan and the playmaker arguably created Torres’ best chance to score yet, which he really ought to have buried, but it’s the sort of chance that the forward can thrive on and the way the pair linked up looks promising.
With Chelsea now out of the Champions League and the Spaniard still yet to find the back of the net for the Blues, this link up with Benayoun could be the spark to get Fernando Torres firing on all cylinders again. Benayoun has only just returned from injury and it will take him a while to get up to match fitness, but the understanding between Yossi and Torres could prove to be fruitful.
So, can Yossi Benayoun be the man to help Torres score his first goal and will his creative flair turn the Spaniard’s fortunes around from now until the end of the season?
