For the second season running, Arsenal has relied heavily on just one striker in their squad. Despite Olivier Giroud having a good season in terms of numbers, there has been little else for the club to call on other than an inconsistent Theo Walcott and an often calamitous Gervinho.
But Arsenal is making promises of a positive summer with the view to making a serious charge on silverware next season. With none of the better Arsenal forwards likely to leave this summer, the club can only strengthen in what has been a problem position for too long.
The lack of genuine options has dented Arsenal’s progress this season, whether than be in domestic cups or in securing a top four spot already. Regardless of whether this is the last summer for Arsene Wenger with the club, he needs to ensure that the team are in a position of strength moving forward.
