Johnny Heitinga has nearly left Everton once already this transfer window and it would be incredibly surprising to see the Dutch international remain at Goodison come the end of January.
The 30 year-old has continually struggled to hold down a place in the Everton first team over the last few years, with Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin being a near ever-present centre-back pairing.
Under new manager Roberto Martinez, the Dutch defender is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, and was widely expected to be joining injury-stricken West Ham until cancelling the deal yesterday afternoon.
Regardless, another shot in the Toffees first team seems unlikely at this point, especially with summer signing Antolin Alcaraz recently returning to fitness, so Heitinga will be hoping another suitor emerges from the wood-work before the end of the window.
He may have failed to forge a place for himself on Merseyside, but the former Ajax and Atletico Madrid centre-back does come with a wealth of experience at Premier League and international level.
Heitinga has over 100 English top flight appearances under his belt and featured in the 2010 World Cup final with the Netherlands, so there’s certainly some scope to suggest he’d be an appealing acquisition for other Premier League clubs.
The Liverpool Echo have recently claimed that Newcastle might be interested in taking Heitinga on loan, but the Magpies have also been linked with Manchester City centre-back Joleon Lescott.
