In football, most big business moves occur during the summer months. This is when clubs endeavour to build a squad capable of meeting their objectives for the next season – be it attempting to win the Premier League, avoid relegation or build on previous success. The January transfer window is mostly an opportunity for clubs to fill any gaps in their side that may have become prevalent over the course of a season. It often provides salvation for injury-stricken teams or a chance to bolster certain areas of the squad. As a result, it’d be easy to think that most of the big-name signings occur in the summer. On a surface level that’s absolutely true – but that hasn’t stopped managers from making a number of fantastic signings. Just check out the list below for evidence.
