The Top TEN unsung footballers in the Premier League

At the annual PFA Awards ceremony on Sunday, two young, British talents received recognition as Gareth Bale and Jack Wilshere picked up the Player and Young Player of Year awards respectively. The PFA Premier League Team of the Year featured the suspected likes of Nani, Carlos Tevez, Nemanja Vidic and Ashley Cole whilst Edwin van der Sar beat Joe Hart to the top goalkeeper spot.

But what of those players who, despite playing consistently well in sometimes inconsistent teams, fail to receive the recognition of both their peers and colleagues? Or, those players who might be talismanic in their national jersey but who rarely get the chance to shine in the Premier League? The Premier League is known for it’s physical and fast-paced nature in comparison to the rest of Europe’s major leagues, hence why players tasked with otherwise unglamorous roles are crucial but don’t always receive the praise they deserve. For every Didier Drogba there was a Claude Makelele and for every Cristiano Ronaldo there was a Darren Fletcher. Here follows the Top Ten Unsung Footballers in this season’s Premier League…
