Football FanCast guest columnist Joe Simpson looks at the Arsenal rumour that just doesn't seem to go away.
Whether the media aren't being very original, or they are simply short of
material, I don't know, but this whole Patrick Viera rumour just simply won't
go away and the story seems to jump from one news publication to the other.
Normally I would ignore what is otherwise idle rumours, but there does seem to
be a lot of smoke behind this one given that everyone is seemingly doing a run
This Sunday's publication of the News
of the World is once again running with the story about Patrick Viera being
set for a January return to the Emirates and suggests that Wenger has perhaps wised
up to the need to put some experience within the squad in able to nurture the
young talent at the club and ensure that they progress accordingly:
said: "Patrick was an amazing, fantastic
player for us. For me, he is perfect for every team. We are very young and it
is difficult to win with a young team."
Wenger doesn't make any direct reference to bringing him back to Arsenal, you
do wonder if it is becoming more and more likely that it will happen and that
our once great leader could make an emotional return to N5, especially as Viera
came out this week and claimed that he needs to quit Inter in order to get more
playing time. Patrick would certainly provide good cover while Song is in duty
in Angola and perhaps Wenger will look to strike a short term deal or loan with
his old adversary Jose Mourinho.
Viera's return be welcomed by Arsenal fans?
