Liverpool fans will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp can help their club to keep pace with a resurgent Manchester United this season.
Jose Mourinho is unlikely to accept anything less than the league title this season, whilst Liverpool fans would probably just be happy to be involved in a conversation about finishing in the top four – let alone win the thing.
The Merseyside sleeping giants have had a troubled few years, as Manchester United have recovered from the world’s greatest footballing hangover (the loss of Alex Ferguson).
Whatever the on-field position of the two clubs, the spitting rivalry seems to be absolutely limitless. Each match is an occasion and each tackle is cheered by both sets of fans like some sort of war.
That almost tribal hatred of one another will make for some fascinating duels between the cheery Klopp and grumpy Jose, won’t it?
Maybe there are a few in Klopp’s squad that could benefit from a trip to Old Trafford…
Lovren’s improvement was stark during last season under Jurgen Klopp.
The Croatian began to find the form that made him such a rock for Southampton, despite having an absolutely calamitous start to his Liverpool career under Brendan Rodgers.
However, Jose Mourinho is the perfect manager for any centre-back. In Mourinho’s low block it seems that any central defender can become a world beater and Lovren, with his no nonsense approach, is just a Mourinho type of player.
Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly will likely be the first choice partnership, although Lovren would quickly push his way in to the side.
The heir to Gerrard’s throne at Anfield has seen his position in the team come under question since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp. Troubles with injuries, the arrival of Grujic and a change in shape has left Henderson in the shadows somewhat.
James Milner often impressed last season, whilst Henderson, when he was available, looked like a player who was struggling to cope with the change in approach under Jurgen Klopp.
One thing that Manchester United need right now is energy in midfield, though, and Henderson could be the perfect utility man for Mourinho.
Admittedly Mane would be left to compete with Martial, Rashford and Depay at Manchester United, but he would be entering into a squad that is likely to play to suit his needs.
Jose Mourinho loves pace, he loves it almost as much as Jurgen Klopp and Mane would arguably get more of a chance at Old Trafford than he will do at Anfield.
He may not have played his first game for Liverpool just yet, but it’s hard to a imagine a player like Mane would’ve turned down a move to Mourinho’s Manchester United for Klopp’s current Liverpool side. Having to compete with Coutinho, Sturridge and Firmino could prove tricky…
