Three reasons why David Moyes is turning things around at Manchester United

‘Moyes Out’ read the banner flying over Old Trafford just last month against to Aston Villa – on a day where Manchester United’s season found its turning point.

Since then Moyes’ side have looked solid, entertaining and more like the United we have all come to demand.

Juan Mata is proving the shrewd signing that United fans hoped it would and the likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Adnan Januzaj have stepped up to the mark.

With Europa League football now the main aim for the team after being knocked out of the Champions League tonight, here is why we think Moyes has turned things around at Old Trafford.

Making future stars the hub of the team

Moyes was criticised for not knowing his best XI earlier in the season and to be honest he probably still doesn’t.

However, with a number of players ageing or coming to the end of their time at Old Trafford – Moyes has started to trust his younger players.

Phil Jones is now one of the first names on the team sheet, with Danny Welbeck, Adnan Januzaj, Chris Smalling and Alex Buttner featuring heavily.

Old Trafford crowd now well and truly on side

From the outside you almost felt sorry for Moyes when he was receiving daily flack, even from his own fans.

A protest over Old Trafford brought out the proper fans though and since then the backing from the Old Trafford terraces has been massive.

They matched Bayern again tonight and there is no doubt that supporters will be satisfied with that.

The blessing in disguise of Robin van Persie’s injury

Whether it be at home or away – United are now set up to not just be hard to beat, but also to have a go.

This was lacking in previous months when Moyes had to fit Robin van Persie, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney in his team somehow, ruining the shape in the process.

With Rooney as the main striker and five in midfield, Moyes has returned to his trusted tactic from Everton and it is no coincidence that the results have improved – but what happens when RVP returns.
