After being berated in the Italian media for the last 2 years by the special one, it does look like Claudio Ranieri has got one over on Jose and his Inter boys by over taking Inter in the Serie A title race by 1 point. After defeating Inter back in March 2-1 in Rome thanks to Luca Toni, Roma have not looked back by picking up crucial wins over Bari, Atalanta and Lazio on Sunday. But Inter have dropped points away at Fiorentina.
Ranieri’s Roma team have been in fantastic form since Late October going 24 league games unbeaten and surprising everyone in Italy, because when Claudio Ranieri took charge after 2 games in the season the benchmark was set for Champions league football. He has set on a fluid 4-2-3-1 and with the introduction of Jeremy Menez in the last month has brought a spark back into the team. Back in England where he was dubbed the tinkerman, in Italy he pulled off a masterstroke on Sunday against local rivals Lazio. At half time trailing 1-0 he took off both Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti and replacing them with Rodrigo Taddei and Jeremy Menez. Both De Rossi and Totti were booked. This turned the game as Roma went onto win the game 2-1 thanks to 2 goals by Mirko Vucinic.
I have seen the change in guard in Italy in the last 3 months and it’s not Mourinho Inter Milan team who everyone is talking about in the Italian press it is Claudio Ranieri Roma team hot everyone lips. The two teams can meet each other in the final of the Coppa Italia in May. Inter have their eye on the treble and Roma have the double to contend with.
I would not be surprised if Claudio picks up his 1st league title as a manger and for Roma since 2001 and gets one over the special one. The rise off Ranieri Roma has been the story in Italy this season.
