The prominent style of the modern game places a great deal of weight on attacking midfielders and specifically playmakers. With most clubs opting for the single striker in their attack, midfielders just behind are tasked with providing their frontmen with avenues to goal as well as contributing themselves.
It’s no great surprise then that many of the best young players on the continent at the moment play a significant role in the attacking third, running the engine room and dictating the tempo of games.
Liverpool and notably Manchester United will be in need of adding a midfielder who can play this role, taking control of games and feeding the forward line. With a wide talent pool in Europe, it won’t be too difficult to identify the best targets ahead of this summer.
