If you delve deep inside your Premier League club’s match day programme, you are more than likely to find an entire section devoted to the youth departments of your team structure. With the inevitable fate of specific young players outshining others and making a meteoric rise to first team contention within the same year as signing a first professional contract perhaps, there have been a few examples of fledgling rookies making their senior bows this term.

Liverpool fans won’t like to be reminded of this weekend’s shock home defeat to Wigan Athletic, which has highlighted for the umpteenth time, the shortcomings of Kenny Dalglish’s side in their slim Champions League ambitions. Nevertheless, what may have slipped under the radar amidst the drama and tension was the 84th-minute blooding of young Raheem Sterling who made his debut in front of the Kop after being prized away from the clutches of QPR as an even younger precocious talent in 2010.

There is a lot expected of the Jamaican born England Under-17 international and Reds fans were wondering just when Sterling would make an appearance in the first team after so much hype. It may not be certain just when Sterling and the following nine players much like him will make another Premier League appearance but their fledgling bows serve to suggest there is a great deal of excitement and anticipation surrounding their long-term futures. Let us take a look.
