Tottenham transfer targets continue to confuse

I know that I maybe in the minority here but if someone can please tell me the value of adding Ashley Young to the Tottenham ranks this summer. I thought our initial pursuit of Joe Cole was pointless, but making a move for Young is even more puzzling.

Young for all his abilities as a football is no better than we have already got  at the Lane and why Harry is looking to add depth to the squad, a left sided player is hardly a priority given the likes of Bale, Kranjcar, Modric and the rebirth of Giovani Dos Santos. Why we are certainly no strangers to wasting millions; on this occasion it would be wise for Levy to go against his managers wishes and refuse Villa’s rather inflated valuation.

If I’m honest I have been somewhat confused and disappointed with our dealings this summer. Whilst I am not one for advocating the spending of millions for the sake of it, at the same time I do feel that we are missing a golden opportunity to use our presence in the Champions League to attract quality players in order to take us on to the next level and ensure that we cement our place in the upper echelons of the Premier League. I’m not sure the likes of Young, Cole, Bellamy and Parker really fit that bill, or more importantly what we actually need in the first place. A top class centre forward and defender surely should be our priority…shouldn’t it?

So am I alone in my bemusement at our performance, or lack of it, in the transfer market this summer? Do you agree that our choice of targets have been somewhat disappointing and unlikely to improve on what we have currently got?
