Graeme Le Saux believes that Tottenham’s European style of football has held them in good stead in their debut season in the Champions League.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast at the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour, the former Chelsea and England full back- who is a UEFA ambassador for the Heineken sponsored tour - believes that Tottenham’s dynamic style of football will cause any European team problems within the competition.

“Tottenham have been a breath of fresh air this season and the Champions League suits their style. They have a real balance to their team where they can call upon their Premier League experience to absorb pressure, but then can breakaway at will to attack the opposition. In many ways they are more European in their style of play and that is why they are thriving in the competition at present.”

Graeme Le Saux was also full of praise for his former boss Harry Redknapp and believes he has created one of the most balanced Tottenham teams he has seen in recent memory that certainly has the potential to go far in the Champions League, given their fearless approach and their ability to mix both an English and Euro style to their play.

“Full credit must go to Harry Redknapp for getting that extra percent from all his players’ week in, week out. Harry has a great spirit about him and it is clear it has rubbed off on the Tottenham team who go out and perform in a fearless manner throughout. The team is well balanced, but it is the pace and width that Spurs have which hurt the opposition, especially against the Milan clubs this season who play with a much narrower shape and therefore were being dragged all over the place and were out of their comfort zone. There is no reason why Tottenham can’t go far in the competition as they have the momentum, they are carefree and the players seem to be bursting with confidence on the European stage.”
