United star FINALLY wakes up and smells the coffee

is
pleased to see Berbatov is finally waking up and smelling the coffee.

Dimitar Berbatov arrived on that Old Trafford pitch
like a man possessed and determined to prove he is worthy of a place at this
football club; you couldn't fault his effort and application last night at all,
my only problem is why it has taken him some thirteen months to realise it.

The Bulgarian's time at Old Trafford has brought a mixed
response among supporters. Some appreciate his gifts; believe he has all the
attributes to be a top player for United, while others have had their back put
up by his languid style which really was a stark contrast to the likes of
Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez's high energy performances. Berbatov appeared lazy,
even his end of season stats showed anything but.

My view of Berbatov has always been that why you can't
expect a leopard to change their spots and in terms of their style, at certain
football clubs you sometimes have to go that extra mile to make sure it fits. The
problem I believe has always been that where at Spurs he was the focal point of
the attack and everything goes through him; at United he doesn't enjoy that
luxury and I believe that is something that he has found hard to fathom, but
instead of embracing the change of styles, he seemed unwilling to adapt, which has
subsequently made him look like something of a spare part. It has taken the
Bulgarian some time to realise the enormity of playing for a club the size of
Manchester United and how the whole team doesn't revolve around him; something
that he has never been use to at his former clubs.

Berbatov has been criticised this season and the
jury has firmly been out on him, especially given the lack of goals. Why Rooney
has been firing all cylinders, Berbatov has been little more than a support act
and still hasn't seemed to grasp the required elements. The pressure is on him,
no question about that and it appears that having reached that crossroads, he now
seems to realise what turn he needs to take if he wants to succeed at Old Trafford.
Berba was immense last night and if he carries on that level of endeavour and
work-rate, then the goals, self glory and the appreciation he craves at Old
Trafford won't be far behind.
