After a 2-1 comeback victory over Scotland, Wales’ World Cup qualifying dreams still hang by a thread. The match tonight will be a real test for the Welsh national team as they host Croatia.
This match is equally important for Croatia, who hope to widen their seven-point lead over Wales and keep pace with Group A’s current leader, Belgium.
Hititbet.com has placed Croatia as heavy favourites for this match.
Wales certainly have their work cut out for them. Aaron Ramsey, who scored a 73rd minute equalising penalty shot against Scotland, will be unavailable for the match. The Arsenal midfielder was sent off with a red card later in the Scotland game. Also, Wales will continue to miss midfielder Joe Allen, whose shoulder injury is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season.
However, Wales manager Chris Coleman will have Gareth Bale, the Premier League’s fastest growing star, at his disposal. Bale will be squaring off against former teammate Luka Modric. Bale and Modric played together for Tottenham Hotspur from 2008 until 2012. The winger will be challenged by a tough Croatian defence that has only conceded twice in five qualifying matches.
Modric agrees that his teammate is Wales’s biggest threat, but doesn’t want his team to focus too much on his former teammate.
He told Croatian media, “One player can’t win games by himself and we know that we will be up against a good team who will be roared on by a passionate home crowd.”
Hititbet.com will give those betting on Wales odds of 10/3, while Croatia are 4/6 on.
