Uruguayan international Luis Suarez has admitted that he would be tempted to join Manchester United should an offer come in from the Premier League giants this summer…surely Sir Alex Ferguson must answer the striker’s call during the window?
The Ajax ace is currently in South Africa helping Uruguay (in more ways than one) to reach World Cup glory, but has strongly hinted that he may be on his way out of the Amsterdam Arena this summer in preference for Old Trafford.
Despite being settled at Ajax, The 23-year-old striker has said that an offer from a high-profile club such as Manchester United could sway him towards a move away from Holland. Suarez told the Daily Star this Sunday:
“Manchester United and Barcelona is the elite clubs in Europe. If they call, you listen. I would only leave Ajax for a team in that category.”
Fergie must surely act this summer after hearing such news, especially if Barcelona are interested in the player as well. The Scotsman is in desperate need of adding a quality striker to his squad for the upcoming season and they do not come any better that Luis Suarez. Last season the Uruguayan was in sensational form for Ajax and has since received much praise from fans and pundits alike. Suarez managed to bag a total of 49 goals in 48 games in all competitions for the Eredivisie side and has been touted by many clubs around Europe for his accolades. The forward has also produced some wonderful performances for his country so far in this year’s World Cup, appearing in all 5 games for Uruguay and bagging 3 goals as well.
United fell short of Domestic and European bliss last season because many believed that the club did not acquire a prolific goal-scorer, barring Wayne Rooney of course.
Rooney has called on and urged his manager to bring in a top quality striker to partner him up front following the disappointment of Dimitar Berbatov. Speaking earlier in May this year, Rooney told The People about the striker balance in the United camp:
“There is me, (Dimitar) Berbatov and Michael Owen. There is Federico Macheda too, but if we can get one more top forward in it would give us the right balance.”
Suarez would certainly add more depth and attacking options within the United camp this summer. The striker has proven too many fans across the world this summer, that as well as being a goal-scoring machine, he also seizes great work-rate, determination and remarkable technical ability. Suarez would suit Manchester United’s style of play very well and would not doubt enhance his already flourishing reputation under the guidance of Fergie, should the Scotman make a move for the striker during the summer window. However, the big problem facing Fergie maybe the player’s price tag, which would have no doubt risen over the past two weeks in South Africa, and may still, depending on if he plays a further part in the competition due to his unsportsmanlike offence which earned him a red card against Ghana last week. Suarez may cost the Red Devils in the excess of £30 million, but surely it’s a price worth paying for a world-class finisher who would improve the squad’s dynamics, right?
United are in huge debt, but Fergie is likely to sell in order to acquire the Uruguayan this summer. However the United boss may have to act as swiftly as possible, as many other top clubs around Europe are highly likely to table bids for the striker when the World Cup concludes this forthcoming weekend.
