When Manchester United announced the £17m double deal of Ljajic and Tosic, there wasn’t a supporter I knew that wasn’t surprised at the acquisitions. Twelve months on it still remains a mystery, especially as we have only seen five games in total from them. Obviously work permit issues has prevented us signing or seeing Ljajic play at Old Trafford; however there is no such excuse for Zoran Tosic.
The Serbian winger was hailed on his arrival as the long term replacement for Ryan Giggs but he hasn’t been given the opportunity to stake a claim for a first team place and has made to do with regular outings in the reserves instead. Tosic career at Old Trafford appears to be at a crossroads already and it makes you wonder whether Sir Alex may be tempted to cash in.
There have been murmurings in the Press this morning that United are likely to be open to offers for Tosic, should a decent fee comes in. Quite what will be deemed a satisfactory offer remains to be seen, but United can hardly hold out for top money because Tosic’s time at Old Trafford has hardly seen his stock rise. I wonder if a better move as far as Sir Alex is concerned is to make Tosic available for a loan move, preferably in the Premier League, just so we take a bit more time to see if he can cut it in England before writing him off. My personal view is that Tosic hasn’t been given a fair crack of the whip at Old Trafford, but the Serb wouldn’t have been the first player that has happened to over the years
Is it time to cash in on the Tosic, or does he deserve a greater chance to prove his worth at Old Trafford?
