Liverpool’s summer transfer business is likely to be plentiful. Although it seems that every off-season on Merseyside is approached with a scattergun method when it comes to snapping up players, the Reds are in serious need of strengthening in a range of areas, so once again they will likely have to risk getting a host of fresh faces through the door.

The Daily Mail have reported on this today, claiming that wingers are one of Jurgen Klopp’s priorities and that Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt is the man he wants. It’s understood the German wide-man was wanted during January, but he was unobtainable at that time given the Bundesliga side’s desire to keep him. Alas, that may change during the looming transfer window, with Bayer unlikely to be able to mount a serious challenge for Champions League qualification after their dismal opening half of the campaign – they sit in 9th.

Demarai Gray of Leicester is also a mooted target, but we think Brandt fits the bill to a greater extent for Klopp…

As his numbers this season from BuLi and Champions League action show, the 20-year-old is a decent asset from out wide. Although he lacks the scoring touch of Klopp’s current options, his six assists illustrate his created edge, as do the 35 chances he’s created. The stand-out return, however, is 48 successful take-ons in just 25 games, which shows that he’s not afraid to run directly at opponents - a trait lacking in Liverpool’s play since the start of 2017.
