As PSG decimated Barcelona 4-0 in the most sensational Champions League performance of the season so far last night, Manchester United fans must have been left reeling.
No doubt, Red Devils supporters are already hurting from their absence from European football’s top competition this term, having to settle for the significantly more humbling and impractical Europa League on Thursday nights.
But to make matters worse, former club-record signing Angel di Maria, who left Old Trafford just one year and 32 appearances after arriving from Real Madrid in summer 2014, was at the heart of PSG’s demolition job, scoring two sublime efforts in front of the Parc des Princes faithful.
And as our infographic shows, it wasn’t only the Argentine’s impact on the scoreline that stood out. He also created four chances for his team-mates from 24 passes – meaning one in six lead to an effort at goal.
Overall, Manchester United fans will be pleased with their club’s efforts this season and the quality of Jose Mourinho’s starting XI – particularly summer signings Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
But Di Maria’s performance will undoubtedly have them – not to mention Premier League neutrals – wondering what could’ve been if he’d stayed on at Old Trafford.
