Arsenal fans watching England's defeat to France last night with their Gunners caps on will have been more than impressed with the performance of attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar, who has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The prodigious Frenchman gave away possession for England's first goal, a scintillating attacking move that saw the ball shift from the right to left flank before some delicate link-up play in the box allowed Harry Kane a point-blank tap in, but once the 21-year-old settled into what was only his fifth international fixture, his quality truly began to shine.

Indeed, Lemar finished up with the most created chances and attempted crosses to his name of any player on the pitch, a whopping five, highlighting the extra flair and ingenuity he could offer the Gunners in the middle-to-final third - potentially filling the void that could be left by Mesut Ozil this summer if his contract saga doesn't come to a positive conclusion.

Perhaps that's no more than what should be expected of an attacking midfielder playing in a highly-talented France side, but Lemar contributed off the ball as well, producing two tackles and three interceptions, and that might have been what impressed Arsenal fans more.

After all, there's no doubting the creative quality already in the ranks at the Emirates Stadium, but Arsenal's attacking cast have often lacked that grit and desire to win the ball back - clearly an underlying factor behind their struggles in the Premier League title race over the last decade.

TransferMarkt value Lemar at £20.4million, but after last night's performance and playing a key role in Monaco's unexpected title win in Ligue 1, he's likely to set Arsenal back considerably more.
