James Milner stakes claim for regular starting berth with instrumental display vs Huddersfield

James Milner has a right to feel a little bit miffed about making just four Premier League starts so far this season. The Liverpool vice-captain selflessly took up the left-back role last term and although his performances waned towards the end of the campaign, he’s rarely let Jurgen Klopp down since the German gaffer took the helm at Anfield.

What’s more, Milner has largely delivered when called upon this season. He was nothing short of exceptional in the 7-0 demolition of Maribor and produced an equally instrumental performance as the Reds recorded a 3-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday, putting in a display deserving of the Man of the Match award.

Indeed, the 31-year-old completely controlled the midfield both offensively and defensively, perhaps highlighted best by the fact he not only made the most tackles of any Liverpool player but also created the most chances – including the corner he whipped in that Roberto Firmino headed home to make it 2-0.

Emre Can is a favourite of Klopp’s while forgotten man Adam Lallana is expected to feature at some point in November after a lengthy injury layoff. But as things stand, Milner’s surely done enough to justify keeping his place for the Reds’ trip to the London Stadium next weekend. Do you agree? Let us know by voting below…
