Magic Fabregas was majestic in Chelsea win over Everton

After a shock defeat to Burnley on the Premier League’s opening weekend, it was back to business as usual for Chelsea on Sunday, cruising to a 2-0 win over Everton.

Perhaps that’s a little flattering considering the Toffees are a decent side but it was the home outfit who produced seven shots on target compared to the visitors’ none in a match they controlled from start to finish.

Crucial to that was Chelsea’s dominance in the engine room both with and without the ball; while N’Golo Kante produced six tackles and two interceptions, Cesc Fabregas did the damage in possession, pulling the strings with majestic movement and passing.

Tellingly of how vital he was, the 110-cap Spain international made the most touches and completed the most passes of any player on the pitch, while putting two shots on target, creating three chances and capping off his performance with the opening goal following an impressive exchange with compatriot Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea do need a few more bodies before the transfer window slams shut later this week but following the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Fabregas’ performance against Everton has already given Antonio Conte a bit of a selection headache regardless of which midfielders the Blues may bring in.
