There's nothing usual about Manchester City buying a 26-year-old from the Australian top flight and then immediately loaning him out to a Championship side who, at the start of the season, were tipped by many for relegation to League One.

Then again, such deals are becoming more common between clubs who share ownership, such is the case with the City Football Group, and although Aaron Mooy's chances of a future at the Etihad Stadium seem rather slim as he approaches his 27th birthday, the Australian international should at least land his parent club a tidy sum in the transfer market this summer.

Indeed, far from battling against relegation, Mooy has been one of the driving forces behind Huddersfield's surprise promotion via the Play-offs, earning a spot in the Championship Team of the Season for his unique mix of combative yet creative displays in the engine room.

And perhaps most appealingly to Premier League suitors, Mooy turned up when it mattered most, producing yet another strong display for the Terriers in the Play-off final at Wembley on Monday - showing how the midfielder has the quality and mentality to handle high-pressure occasions.

As well as netting in the penalty shootout with arguably the best finish after Reading's Liam Kelly, Mooy had an incredibly proactive afternoon, ranking second throughout Huddersfield's 14 players involved for tackles and touches of the ball, whilst showing his inventive qualities with one created chance and seven crosses into the box - two of which found their target.

"From the first day, they (Huddersfield) treated me like I was an actual signing, I'm very grateful and glad to be part of it. I don't know what my plans for next season are yet. I'm just trying to enjoy the night. I didn't want to talk about it until the season was over."

Mooy has admitted his future remains unclear and joining Huddersfield permanently seems far more likely than him getting a chance at Manchester City next season. But clearly a talented player who didn't buckle under the intensity of a Wembley final, Premier League clubs will undoubtedly be interested in his services this summer.
