Willian making himself undroppable in battle to complete Chelsea’s front three

Chelsea’s last two results, wins against two of last season’s top seven in the Premier League, are made all-the-more impressive by the absence of Eden Hazard, the Player of the Year at Stamford Bridge for 2016/17 and the Blues’ talismanic presence in the final third.

Last season, the Belgium international struck an instrumental partnership with Pedro as the two inside forwards operating just behind Diego Costa, building an on-pitch understanding that got the best out of all three players.

Willian, Chelsea’s Player of the Year the season prior, was consequentially sacrificed as the Blues steadily marched towards the Premier League title. But judging by his performances so far this season, Pedro’s in the biggest danger danger of losing his starting berth when Hazard returns to fitness.

The 47-cap Brazilian has caused problems for every defence he’s faced this season and that was the case again on Sunday as Chelsea recorded a 2-0 win over Everton, producing the most dribbles and the most created chances of any player on the pitch while having three efforts at goal.

But it wasn’t just end product that made Willian’s performance stand out; for a player that’s essentially part of the front-line and encouraged to play risky passes to make scoring opportunities, an 84% pass completion rate is incredibly impressive, highlighting how well the 29-year-old uses the ball and his decision-making when in possession.

So, Chelsea fans, once he’s back to full fitness, who should Antonio Conte select alongside Hazard? Let us know by voting below…
